Step 1: Seventh Chords
Seventh chords are the foundation of jazz harmony. A major 7th chord adds the 7th note of the major scale to a major triad. For C Major 7 (CMaj7), you play C-E-G-B. Listen to its "dreamy" or "relaxed" sound.
